I'll jump in and post a question if the person "tagged" doesn't respond, so here I go with our next question. Feel free to answer any of the questions at any time!
Does your school or institution have a service learning program? Briefly, what does it consist of? Do you partner with any specific organizations or programs? Is service learning a requirement for your students?
I'm tagging Jim Lerman for the next question of the day... Jim, jump in at any time with a question!

Yes we have a Service Learning Program. The Middle School - Years 6-8 (ie about 10 -14 year olds) have a three year program that involves Service to the Enivironment in Year 6, Service to the Local Community in Year 7 and International Service Projects in year 8. We also have a vertical program that runs across these three years. The vertical program has run for 4 years now. We devote half a day per term to this. The day starts with some type of learing experience, sometimes a film, or a guest speaker of presentations etc. This is followed up with activities that enable the students to carry out some activity related to the information they had earlier received.
Over the years students have made teaching aids for students in Nepal, prepared health packs for patients at the Fistular hospital in Ethiopia, raised funds for KOTO that older students took with them on a school trip to Vietnam.
Year 7 have a regular visiting program to children in a special unit for intellectually challenged children. Here they help the teacher by being an extra set of hands, listening to reading, reading books, generally helping with the activities the teachers have planned.
We also help with their intensive swimming program. This way these students can have a person with them at all times.
We have a lot of other things ging on in the school which constitute Service Learning but they are not formalised at this stage.
If anyone wants to know more I am happy to talk to you further
For the IB students, we have CAS (as is required in all IB schools) - Community, Action, Service. 11th and 12th graders are required to reach a minimum number of CAS hours during their IB years.
The rest of the school is on a totally voluntary basis. We just had our first-ever "Involved Citizens" day where the entire middle and high school spent a day volunteering with different service organizations around Kuala Lumpur. We have a small "Helping Hands" group in the middle school that does a variety of community service activities as well.
There are tons of after school and extra activities run by various teachers as well. Things like: Habitat for Humanity, STAND (Students Take Action Darfur), Model United Nations (we run a major MUN conference every year - MYMUN), PAWS (a local animal shelter). These are totally voluntary though, and can change from year to year as staff are recruited and leave.
Our school participates in numerous charitable and service learning programs. We have partnered with local national charities such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for Pennies for Patients. School created events such as the Rock-a-thon (students earn pledges and then "rock" for an hour in rocking chairs), staff vs. students basketball game, 1st grade bazaar, food collections, and penny wars all benefit national, international , and local causes. This year, a group of middle school students has partnered with a local public school that serves students will severe and profound disabilities.
All students grades K-8 participate in our community service programs as part of our regular educational program. We have a teacher on staff who is responsible for coordinating official service programs within our school.
