I am looking for a middle school class to share a blog with. I teach technology in NJ and one of the standards is to discuss child labor in the US or world. Each semester (we have 4) my 8th grade students research about child labor in the Texas onion fields focusing on the plight of migrant workers, and then they complete a PowerPoint presentation that includes problem analysis, historical labor laws compared to today, alternatives and their impacts, and an action plan including what need to take place as far as government, laws, etc. I would like to extend their knowledge by creating a blog and having other classrooms participate in the discussion. I would be more than happy to share my lesson plans, websites and rubrics I have developed. I just need a partner in another country or state if I cannot find a country. I am looking to have the blogs be open from Sept - Nov, Nov--Jan, Jan-Mar, and Apr-June. I am willing to work with 7th - 10th graders, ages 12-16. Please let me know if you are interested! Please send me an email at jlynch@littlesilver.k12.nj.us.

Thank you so much, Kim, for replying to my discussion. I think that it would still be beneficial to my students to blog with any other school at this point while my search continues for a class in another country to discuss child labor with. It would be my first time blogging with another class, so it should be a learning experience for all! I have asked my students if they have relatives in another country that have students their age that are in school. Some are looking into that right now. I am starting my child labor project with them today so they can have the background to converse intelligently about the issue. I plan on starting a blog after they have completed their presentations. At first, we could blog with our class, then have your class join, or we could have them join from the start. I am happy to share my lesson plans and resources with anyone interested. Just let me know!
Jill
