Full Session Description:
Our Irish-American Connection was a Project-based Learning unit designed to study history, geography, culture and language arts through following the life of one man who touched both of our locations: Francis O’Neill.
From our site:
Two classes from Across the World
One man to Bridge the Distance
From farmer to Chief of Police, all while living a life of adventure and music.
We worked through history, culture and an ocean...as we set out to see:
What can we learn by researching the life of one man?
We followed the life of Captain Francis O'Neill who lived in the eras of the Great Potato Famine and the Great Chicago Fire, from his life on a west Cork County farm in Ireland to occupying the office of the Chief of Police in Chicago.
