Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
In this session Amanda and Eva will showcase an innovative assignment that was designed and developed as a community building activity for students in the Conflict Analysis and Management program. Students were asked to respond to the question “Are you ready for conflict analysis and management practice?” Rather than post their responses to a discussion forum, students had to create and hack a Mozilla Popcorn Maker Video.
The Royal Roads approach to conflict analysis and management is unique in that it reflects the full spectrum from interpersonal to international conflict. We view conflict as neither good nor bad, but as a necessary element of all relationships. Conflict exists everywhere and opportunities exist to work with it, change it, and utilize it.
Our program focuses on both the theory and understanding of the effects of conflict. We provide you with the skills to work with conflict, and we help you create self-awareness of what your role is within that system of conflict and how you can have an impact to make a difference. You will be introduced to a wide range of skills – facilitation, negotiation, mediation, and others – and learn to appreciate the strengths and limitations of them all.
The mission of the Global Education Conference is to promote global awareness, diversity, and engage educators and students. The community building assignment created for the introduction to Conflict Analysis and Management course will showcase how students can engage and create innovative projects and assignments in a global context. Educators will learn how to create an assignment that not only has students be creative, but also pushes their personal boundaries. Through the creation of a video project, students were able to share their perceptions, fears, diversity, and awareness of conflict analysis and management.
Participants of the workshop will learn about the assignment structure, how the assignment changed the notion of community in the course, and most importantly the lessons learned, specifically as it pertains to assessment.
Participants will be asked to review three student videos and provide their assessment feedback based on the assignment criteria of quality, academic rigor, and innovation.
The outcome of the session? Participants will create a proposed assessment matrix/rubric for innovative assignments. One that addresses quality, academic rigor, and innovation.

Can you add a bit to this proposal explaining conflict analysis and management, and how it relates to our conference mission? I think it will help attract more attendees: http://www.globaleducationconference.com/notes/The_GEC_Mission_Stat...
