The California Department of Education (CDE) intends to support the development of global competencies in students by awarding small grants to California schools that demonstrate promising practices in global education. A minimum of five “mini-grants,” in amounts up to $4,500, will be distributed in the 2017–18 school year to support identified schools in sustaining, expanding, and strengthening their global education programs and to be recognized as mentors to other schools around California. Applicants must provide evidence of support for matching funds or in-kind services from their local districts to encourage increased short- and long-term impact of the project. Please note that indirect costs are not allowable under the terms of this grant award.
Schools with emergent, developing, and mature global education programs are all encouraged to apply. Awardees will serve as models of effective structures and strategies in global education, participate in a Global Schools Network community of practice, and receive support from other members to prepare for mentoring activities in 2018–19. These activities may include sharing knowledge, in-person training, advising on and supporting follow-up efforts, and providing feedback to other schools as needed. These activities are intended to help California schools strategically integrate global education practices into all grade levels and across all subject areas.
Funding for these awards is made possible through a grant to the CDE from the Longview Foundation as a follow up activity to the 2016 Global Education Summit https://www.mydigitalchalkboard.org/portal/default/Group/Viewer/GroupView?action=2&ql=globaled.
