The Australia–Asia School Partnerships BRIDGE (Building Relationships through Intercultural Dialogue and Growing Engagement) Project has built a community of learners (103 partnerships between 206 school with 340 teachers) across Australia, China, Indonesia and South Korea that builds student’s intercultural understanding. BRIDGE is unique in its approach to community building and impact on student learning outcomes.
At the heart of BRIDGE is experiential learning, a structured process which facilitates increased language proficiency, a reduction in ethnocentrism, awareness of other cultures and one’s own, improved communicative skills and increased professional competence. Core to BRIDGE is a focus on utilising Web 2.0 technologies to support student-to-student and teacher-to-teacher relationships, communication and collaboration.
