Co-Presenter Name(s): Jodhbir Singh, Amy/Everett Lewark, Cristian, Peter, Sierra, Thomas Steele Maley, Roberto Greco, Carol Black, Mary Ann Reilly, ..

Area of the World from Which You Will Present: mainly united states, Israel, India

Language in Which You Will Present: mainly english

Target Audience(s): Anyone seeking social change through a redefinition of school or education.

Short Session Description (one line):

We are questioning and redefining what success/school means to a culture, what it means to be human and alive..

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

We are currently missing the brilliance of the human mind, and are creating/perpetuating a dismantling stress to the human spirit, with our blind/deaf/mute allegiance to a system of education based on prescribed learning. This prescribed learning was not crafted with ill intent, but has undoubtedly sustained a crippling dependency/addiction at a global level. Social change will/can happen if we but question the existence of the prescription itself rather than continue our efforts to improve its deliverance.
We will be sharing how we are affecting that change, initiated/directed/tweaked by unlikely experts.

Most of the barriers to global learning collaboration are rooted in the structures of "schooling" and a prescribed vision of global homogenous learning.  The innovation lab and our learning exchange collective vision learning in ubiquitous, multi-sited and indeed worldwide spaces that transcend traditional western driven schooling for internet and place based networked learning.  Much as the decolonization process must happen in economic and political terms it also needs to happen in education.

All of the presenters listed maintain global PLN's, have initiated multi-sited learning initiatives and see the innovation lab as a catalyst for leveraging critical world networks of learning exchange.

  • Thanks for your submission to present at the 2011 Global Education Conference. Your proposal looks promising, but could benefit from some additional language that ties your work to the conference theme of global collaboration. Your proposed session may imply global collaborations and connections, but we need to see more explanation of how your work ties into our mission.  The conference seeks to present ideas, examples and initiatives related to connecting educators and classrooms around the world with an emphasis on promoting global awareness and instilling global competency in students. This is not a general education conference nor a technology conference. Please review your submission and adjust accordingly, so that participants clearly understand how your work fits into themission of the conference.
    • Hi Gayle,

I completely appreciate your suggestions and will offer the following as one of our collectives responses.

You need to elaborate on this IN your proposal. Let us know when you added this language to the original proposal and we'll be happy to review again. The deadline for submitting revisions is tomorrow at 5 PM CST.

        Thanks!

        • ok.. let me know if that helps.

          thank you.

      • Thanks for this eye- or better sense(s) opening proposal!

As it is not apparent at the moment if this topic has been accepted, I would just like to express my interest and share my conviction that this contribution is needed here and will hopefully find its way in the conference program.
