This session discusses how participation in foreign student exchange programme such as the American Field Service (AFS) Exchange Programme and iEARN Asian Student Exchange Programme could be a powerful catalyst in promoting intercultural learning and assisting students to accept diversity by aligning it to the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG ).
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
This session will highlight the case from 2005 to 2011 whereby several batches of foreign students under two different foreign exchange student programmes that were placed to stay with host families in Malaysia and Taiwan. This particular session aims to rethink and look into possibilities of how current foreign exchange programmes could be improved and designed to cater for better partnership in learning and working globally in the 21st century if leadership is the key towards tackling problems in society by 2030 as expounded in the SDG.
The role of host schools is crucial in determining the successful outcome of dynamic participation of foreign students and their contributions towards raising awareness of the SDG in the schools, families and communities where they are placed. Foreign students who are placed in their host countries, in turn need to be well-equipped by having at least some prior knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG besides the basic geographical, historical and cultural understanding of their host countries.
