Not thinking about it, I took my $399 full windows 8 tablet to lunch with me this week to keep up to date on the conference. windows8tab.jpg
Although today it hit me Friday, last day of the conference go figure. I can easily run a ton of programs on my cheap windows 8 tablet.
Why not load blackboard collaborate on a Windows 8 tablet and take kids globally on field trips, museum, ponds other cool things or places. The same way that we are sharing, kids could be sharing too!
I live in Chicago, I could easily take blackboard collaborate to the top of the Sears / Willis Tower and we could step out into a sky box and kids around the world could see it live and talk to me, not to mention hundreds of other cool things in Chicago and millions of cool things around the world.
Tools are rather simple $299 or better for the tablet, free wifi or wifi hotspot (4G of 4LTE) connection, blue tooth microphone or the microphone and speakers in the tablet seems to work fine.
God knows why Apple didn't think of it first, ipad basically runs osx and processors have been able to multitask for some time now but, my ipad is collecting dust now that I've gotten a windows 8 tablet, full version of windows, not the RT version, get the full version of windows. If you have an ipad budget consider a yoga pad or surface 2 pro.
I can make some videos and put them on my 321Learn.com youtube channel or we can update our SofTutor academic freeware products as well http://www.k-12kids.com
Maybe next year we should try to have some live on location presentations.
I wonder if we could use head and chest mounted GoPro wifi cameras and link video feeds back to a windows 8 tablet to do a live multi camera event, almost like producing your own football game with blackboard collaborate. ... possibilities are endless. Talk to a skydiver, skier, snow boarder, surfer, pilot, train engineer, boat caption, race car driver ... live! i.e. sync your cameras & microphones to the tablet, put it on your back, then jump and chat with kids live as you freefall.
Need to get your kids up to speed on windows or video creation technologies check our free academic training products at http://www.k-12kids.com .
