Global citizenship is a key 21st century skill to succeed in our interdependent society. This session discusses four key ways to promote global competencies by bridging cultural gaps through intercultural exchanges and experiential learning in/out of the “flat” classroom.  1. ENGAGE; 2. TEACH; 3. SEND; and 4. HOST.  ENGAGE will highlight how AFS-USA creates professional global learning content for educators, as well as develops partnerships with classes worldwide with the goal of promoting global interconnectedness and collaboration among students.  TEACH AND SEND portions will focus on physical and virtual exchange programs for American educators and students.  HOST will discuss bringing intercultural awareness into schools through hosting international students and educators.  The presentation will include myriad, nontraditional and innovative teaching options and resources in the area of global competency through intercultural learning.
