Full Session Description:
This session aims to share the successes and challenges of implementing high impact practices in higher education learning environments, while building cultural awareness and recognizing diversity among students.
The presentation will begin with an overview of teaching experiences of a full-time faculty member at an American private urban university, with a student population representing 90 countries and 44 states.
Examples of high impact practices will include critical inquiry, sustained collaborative discussion, and experiential learning. Both faculty and student perspectives will be shared. The session will conclude with participants engaging in discussion. Question prompts may include, “How do we create an engaged classroom community of learners in a standardized system?” and/or “Are the high impact practices discussed conflicting with the life experiences and worldviews of students?”
