We will examine the use of Skype with the author sessions as a tool for reading promotion in the elementary school.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Students in American public elementary schools are pressed for time. Many students are overscheduled with after school activities, while other students prefer to use their free time to play video games. School librarians are frequently challenged by administrators to increase the amount of time that students read recreationally outside of school. However, school libraries often have limited budgets for reading promotion activities and author visits. Can the use of internet technology such as Skype increase recreational reading among elementary students? This session will present the details from a case study of the elementary school where the author works. She will present qualitative and quantitative data regarding the use of Skype author visits in the elementary school library.

Hi Michele -
This sounds like a great proposal! However, as per our mission statement, we'd like to see language in your proposal that addresses the development of global competence or some other international aspect. This may be implied in your proposal because of the use of Skype, but perhaps you can edit this and elaborate on how this will promote global awareness. To edit your proposal, please go to the OPTIONS button in the upper right hand corner.
Thanks,
Lucy Gray
