Short Session Description (one line): This session will introduce participants to one organization’s approach to expanding cultural horizons, fostering global competence, and supporting international collaboration for K-12 students.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): People to People International’s School & Classroom Program has connected more than 300,000 students (ages4-19) and 4,300 teachers from 130 countries worldwide. Each year, student participants in this program explore other cultures, share about their own, and make new friends, while teachers gain new instructional partners and a broader perspective on instructional approaches and global education. Participants complete a wide array of activities and projects, including Global Youth Murals, which showcase global perspectives and local realities—but the most important outcome of the program is the intercultural, and sometimes interlinguistic, connections that students and teachers form.

This session will explore the methods employed in the School & Classroom Program, some of the ways teachers take advantage of these global connections, and opportunities for other educators to implement similar opportunities for students in their classrooms. Participants will leave the session with a clearer understanding of the role international connections can play in supporting the development of global competence in students.
