Short Session Description (one line):

Using MIT's online Scratch environment for global, collaborative storytelling.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Learning how to code in elementary schools is a new fundamental skill that is often left to the realm of ICT specialists. While the Scratch environment supports the development of 21st Century learning skills such as thinking creatively, communicating clearly, and analysing systematically, it is easy to use and can be incorporated into many areas of the curriculum by classroom teachers.

In the Flat Scratch Cat Project, students are introduced to the basics of coding as they build a collaborative story, learning about the lives of children around the world. Initially developed to promote coding as a part of CodeWeek.EU, we realise the potential of this project to connect classrooms and students for ongoing global interactions.

This session will provide an overview of the project, how to get started with Scratch and share ideas for other collaborative coding projects.
