Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

For one and a half year I have had the great opportunity to be part of Adobe Youth Voices as part of the Adobe Foundation’s partnership with iEARN The Adobe Youth Voices Program opens  new opportunities for educators all over the world through which they can discover new ways to teach and, especially to encourage students to be more creative by trusting their own capabilities. The educators can be more open-minded in collaboration with students. It is amazing what students can do if you give them the confidence and support they need.

Media alone will not change the world but it's a very powerful tool and can be used to make youth voices be heard and that Adobe Youth Voices is all about. Media literacy is very important and through Adobe Youth Voices we can enable our students to create media and not only be passive recepients of media created by others. Being able to create media that conveys the message, the youth share with us their experience, concerns and feelings.

Every step of the process of making media is very important and offers great learning opportunities for students, especially for those who have never had a chance to participate in projects like Adobe Youth Voices.  The program is a wonderful platform that provides opportunities to learn 21st century skills that are often not included in the school syllabus in many countries (like Romania, for example).

The idea is to see Adobe Youth Voices in a larger perspective and not only creating media. It offers to youth the opportunities for:

-          expressing themselves

-          being creative and authentic

-          self-confidence

-          working like a team

-          malleability,

-          friendship,

-          involvement,

-          communication,

-          gaining technical skills

-          building relationships

In the process of creating media projects, it is very important to encourage creativity and innovation. I think it is not easy for the young people to create a media project, so the educator role as facilitator is important. We have to encourage the youth to express themselves, to be authentic and original, to create with purpose and with a good impact to their community.

I think the key points could be:

-          What does it mean to create with purpose?

-           What do I want to present?

-           Which is the target?

-           What do you think about the world around you? Do you want to send a message to your community? Which way do you choose?

-          Me as an individual

-          Team work
