DeforestACTION is an environmental education program connecting students around the world to learn about, and take action on, the pressing issue of deforestation using innovative, online collaborative technologies. Since 2010, DeforestACTION has connected over 18,000 youth and students on environmental learning and action. During this session, we will share the global learning opportunities associated with DeforestACTION, which engages students in challenged-based learning about deforestation and environmental sustainability. By showcasing the DeforestACTION educational resources, social media and technology tools, you can learn more about this opportunity to help students develop global competencies through international collaborations. In this session, we will:
- Explore our virtual learning platform, online educational resources and lessons plans designed for student-led learning experiences;
- Learn more about our HP Catalyst professional learning course for STEMx teachers to design deforestation lesson plans through the lens of challenge-based learning;
- Navigate through our various technology tools, including Earthwatchers, where students across the planet can monitor forests via satellite imagery, and;
- Watch clips of student-produced videos using social media that highlight their accomplishments through DeforestACTION
