Short Session Description: This session features participants in the Learning Studios - a global network of teachers and students focused on learning design thinking and invention skills.
Full Session Description: Presenters will share experiences and learnings from the first two years of the global Learning Studios initiative connecting over 70 schools and youth organizations in a growing network of 15 countries around the world. This project leverages a facilitated online network to help teachers learn and collaborate as they guide their students in learning about media, design, and entrepreneurship. To date, Global Challenges have included a Global Goals, Local Solutions (design a product, service, or campaign to aid their community in alignment with one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals), Play to Learn (design a game to teach the player something new), and Design for All, focused on redesigning everyday objects and systems to be more equitable, inclusive, and accessible.
Participants will:
- explore how global connectivity and virtual exchange contribute to a maker learning environment
- examine the challenges and benefits of engaging students in self-directed projects to change their world for the better
- receive concrete guidance for building social entrepreneurship, design thinking, and maker learning programs in their own schools and youth organizations
