Short Session Description: This session will provide an overview of the review cycle conducted in developing a rigorous and internationally respected secondary curriculum.
Full Session Description: All educational bodies conduct regular curriculum reviews to ensure the best pedagogical practices and assessment styles are utilised in educating students under the model towards which their mission strives. Within the International Baccalaureate (IB), each Diploma Programme subject is reviewed on a seven-year cycle, led by a Curriculum Manager and involving participants ranging from practicing teachers through to external consultants and members of the wider IB community. During the review cycle, detailed research is conducted in a range of areas with the aim of improving the content, delivery, and assessment of the subject material. A series of meetings are held involving external participants and the IB conducts regular internal reviews following these meetings. New curriculum models and assessment techniques are piloted with feedback refining the details of the guide and teacher support material that is produced. Online and face-to-face workshops are developed towards the end of the curriculum cycle to ensure teachers in all IB regions are prepared for delivering the new course.
