Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Since Spring 2016, students at the University School of Milwaukee have worked in tandem with the NGO Focused to develop and implement a water purification project in Uganda. To do this, they have employed free and flexible on-line link using a WordPress web page and a Facebook page. The students have subsequently held three Google Hangout sessions with Focused and the Ugandan community stakeholders to develop the project. The goal is to develop and implement a project in cooperation with community stakeholders in Uganda, informed by human-centered design to enhance the Ugandan communities not just through a water-purification system, but also by enhancing local capacities that can continue to push economic development once the USM project is complete.
The presentation will include a discussion of establishing the web presence with Uganda, empathy mapping and human-centered design techniques, learning through the mobilization and development workshops run through Focused, how stakeholders view the project in Uganda, and Dan's point of view from Focused . We will end with a discussion about the process of developing a social entrepreneurial mindset.
