Area of the World from Which You Will Present: Netherlands
Language in Which You Will Present: English
Target Audience(s):Teachers who are interested in developing student language profiles as part of pedagogical planning that builds a culture of intercultural understanding.
Short Session Description (one line): Developing student language profiles for intercultural understanding
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Students learn most effectively when their identity is affirmed and when new learning is scaffolded and connected to already existing background knowledge. Teachers therefore need to know who their students are in order to plan for this. Very often a student’s knowledge background has been developed in a variety of languages. Language Profiles are a way of documenting this information to make sure it is made available as a valuable resource for further learning. Language profiles are key tools for promoting multilingualism, a reality, right and resource for global classrooms.
