A “Dialogue Culture” is a prerequisite for the peaceful coexistence of different groups of a society, where personal and collective values and norms interact. In this presentation, we want to introduce our understanding of dialogue with regard to education, to represent dialogue as part of culture, and to give examples of dialogue culture in different contexts: Ukraine, Russia and Switzerland. This combination arose out of a project by the Swiss Peace Foundation swisspeace, where civil society activists from Russia and Ukraine met to analyse their countries’ problems and find common ground for joint action. One of the most urgent issues they identified was an underdeveloped “dialogue culture” in the two countries, a rejection of cooperation, which is strongly connected to the recent conflict in Ukraine.
