Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
One Hen, Inc. grew from a best-selling children’s book One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference, written by Katie Smith Milway. The One Hen Academy (OHA) provides a flexible curriculum and resources that inspire kids to four values: financial responsibility, personal initiative, global awareness, and giving back. Via a series of interactive lesson plans and a website of games and activities, One Hen challenges young people to start their own small businesses both in schools and in community based organizations. In the process, the youth entrepreneurs are equipped with the necessary skills in business math, personal financial literacy, and social entrepreneurship.
This session will provide tools and tactics for engaging youth, elementary to middle school, in entrepreneurial activities that will enable them to act philanthropically. Facilitators will review One Hen’s curriculum, materials, and online resources and show how the program uses evidence-based best practices to teach financial literacy and inspire children towards social entrepreneurship. We will present quantitative data that demonstrates the program impact and how it aligns with public school curriculum requirements and the objectives of established youth programs such as the America SCORES, the YMCA, City Year, etc.
