The U.S. State Department provides more than 2000 scholarships to international high school students to learn about American society, traditions and values. Departing from hundreds of cities in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe and other regions, students will arrive in August 2009 and return home in May 2010. We seek schools and families throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, who can host these students during the 2009-2010 academic year. These scholarship students go through a rigorous selection process that includes English tests, essays and face-to-face interviews. The students are high achievers who are selected because of their potential to be future leaders of their countries. By enrolling these students at schools, American students will be able to interact with peers from the farthest corners of the world to teach them what America is really about. At the same time, American schools and families will have an opportunity to practice citizen diplomacy. Their interactions with exchange students will give them a better understanding of international issues while forging ties with the global community.
