Extending the leaning experience beyond the classroom through collaborating with other students globally
Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

The session will explore a teacher’s activity in the school which offers an enriched learning experience to the students. This includes the way the lessons are structured in the classroom as well as the core curricular activities that the teacher is undertaking with his students. In the classroom the engages the students on inquiry based learning through problem/project-based learning. The student are engaged to identify solution withing as well as identify the interconnectedness in the local-global aspects. This has made the students work collaboratively with other in addressing issues like hunger, Youth, Technology. On core-curricula the teacher handles World studies extended essay which calls for the student to display global awareness, understanding and eventually competence. Some of the topics that have been discussed in the essays include Girl Child, Food, Youth and Obesity, access to clean water and quality education. In the clubs the teacher has exposed the students in working with other students as they identify issues and how to come up with solution. There is a thread across all the teacher activities that of developing problem solving skills in the students while they think about the self, local and global implications. Its not a matter of being a default global citizen but how do we as educators go beyond awareness levels and engage our learners to develop global competencies. The experiences of teachers have become fruitful as he is an online facilitator on the world studies hence he is able to support other teachers who seek guidance on how to support students.
