A rural university brings global competencies to preservice teachers and in-service teachers
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Rural America must be included in the movement towards global education that develops globally competent world citizens. Over the past three years, an active group of faculty in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership at Radford University has worked diligently to increase awareness of the importance of global education for our students who will become teachers and leaders throughout southwestern Virginia. This work has led to efforts to integrate experiences that develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions of global competence into our coursework for pre-service teachers and aspiring school leaders, to assess our students’ development as global educators, to support in-service teachers’ efforts to prepare their students with global competence, and a regional conference in the summer of 2016 titled “RU World Ready?”. This session will share the journey thus far as well as current efforts to bring together diverse faculty priorities under the umbrella of global education using the theme of FIRE (Faculty Inspiring world Ready Educators).
