  • Hi Maria, thanks for the emails. Just to update you on where I'm at with my grade 7/8s, we are studying climate change right now and are developing/completing a environmental project relating to climate change and recycling. We have audited our school's garbage by grade and rooms and are now informing all 210 of our students and staff as to how they did. We are going to completely "revamp" how our school recycles, set up a better system with more receptacles and bins and then complete another garbage "audit" to see how everyone did. We are capturing the whole process on pictures and videos as we are in an "envirothon" competition with other schools in our division in which five of our students have to present our project at the Envirothon meeting in October. We'll have to see how we do. So, does that fit in at all with what you are doing and is there any way our kids could collaborate?

Let me know. I don't know if I mentioned earlier, we do have a class wiki found at mrjhillswiki.wikispaces.com. I haven't added much yet for this year but will be asap.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    • Hi Jason!
It's been a busy start of the year and I'm sure you can relate! I've been side tracked with other obligations and am still trying to work out how to get something going. My students starting blogging on edmodo.com. Would you be willing to have your students blog about the garbage patch using this medium. It's free and we could monitor the discussions. All they need is an access code and a user name and password.

Anyone else interested please let me know!
  • I would love to have my 4th grade class collaborate and discuss solutions. I was looking at Project Kaisei: Capturing the plastic vortex. I would like to tie it into my SS and Science standards. I've never done this type of project before, but I'm willing to learn and my class as well!

  • We certainly would be Maria. I am a grade 7/8 teacher in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. This would fit really well into our Science and Social curriculum and my kids would certainly respond to coming up with relevant action plans to help. Let me know if you want to collaborate on a project.
    Thanks,

    • Hi Jason,
I would love to come up with a meaningful project for our students. How many classes do you teach? I have 2 6th grade classes that should be about 25 students in each.
