Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Two leading global educators and three youth leaders will join participants for a nuts and bolts session on low-cost, high-impact digital storytelling that results in dynamic learning.
The session will sample acclaimed work by youth from Palestine, Germany, Maldives, Zambia, and the U.S. The authors of these samples will talk about the making, the meaning and the impact behind their well-crafted stories. As proponents of experiential learning, the lead educators will detail the process and benefits of integrating media making into curricula.

Workshop participants will leave with the kindling they need to ignite their own fires. They can download a free outline of implementation steps to bring the magic of story to global learning.

This session will be tailored to the needs of the audience and includes:

  • Overview of United World College and Youth Media Project
  • The philosophy that informs the practice
  • Samples of "story" created individually and in small groups
  • Interviews with international youth leaders who created the samples
  • How to prepare for digital storytelling: exercises that build trust and deepen listening
  • How to plan equipment needs
  • How to plan for the necessary staff
  • How to allocate time for best results
  • How to structure the creative sessions
  • How to forecast the costs of digital storytelling in your program
  • Sample of an assessment protocol
  • Pauses throughout to interact with the audience
