GEC News - January

Dear GEC Members -

Just a few quick reminders and updates.

1) If you attended, presented at, or volunteered at the 2015 Global Education Conference, you can request badges and generic certificates. Details are on the front page of our website: http://globaleducationconference.com. We will be processing these requests after our January 31, 2016 deadline.
3) Steve Hargadon and I also support the 2016 online Student Technology Conference which is organized by students at the Marymount School of New York. It's not too late for students in grades 6-12 (approximate ages 11-18) to appy to present. All are welcome to attend this free event. There is a separate website: http://studenttechnologyconference.com and a flyer you can pass along to friends: https://www.smore.com/k1p78. Follow all the action on Twitter using the hashtag #stutech2016.
4) A resource courtesy of GEC Leadership Team member Julene Reed: The Rural and Community Trust Global Teacher Fellowship: http://www.globalteacherfellowship.ruraledu.org/index.html. I believe this is for US teachers, but check with the sponsoring organization.
5)IREX's Teachers for Global Classrooms program is accepting applications through March 17, 2016. Again, this is for US citizens. (NOTE: the GEC was very pleased to have many fellows from this program participate in the 2015 online conference. And, we just met a fellow face to face at the FETC conference in Florida!)

Look for more breaking news in the next couple of weeks. We're about to officially launch sites for a new event, Global Leadership Week (April 25-29) and for Global Education Day at the ISTE conference in Denver. We are also launching a webinar/podcasting series called GlobalEd.TV in February. Look for more details in the next week or so!

Finally, I'll be at Waukegan IL's Google N'More conference this weekend and the Illinois Computing Educator's conference in February presenting on globally oriented project based-learning. If you'll be at either of these events, be sure to stop by and say hello.

Thanks,

Lucy Gray
