Short Session Description (one line): Educators in California are using global competence to strengthen student engagement and agency across the grades and disciplines.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Join us in exploring how California educators have defined global competence and are now teaching for global competence in multiple ways -- from preservice education programs to elementary, middle, and high school programs. We will share some of the ways we provide professional development for teachers in collaboration with other California Subject Matter Projects, county offices of education, and organizations in order to serve the needs of districts, schools, and individual teachers. We will demonstrate how these programs respond to state initiatives and goals for biliteracy, social emotional learning support, inquiry learning, environmental education, and college and career readiness. Come learn about our literacy program (Global Book Bags), virtual exchange (Global Dialogue), digital storytelling (Global Voices), cross-cultural exchange with international college students and K-12 (Intercultural Ambassadors), and environmental literacy program (Teaching for Sustainable Communities). This is an informational session that showcases the work of the California Global Education Project and teachers across the state. We invite your insights, ideas, questions, and comments.
