Dear GEC Membership -
There are four important announcements this month!
- Global Education Day at ISTE 2015 was a great success and we have many resources to share.
- The Call for Proposals for our 2015 virtual conference is now open.
- A few graduate students are looking to connect with educators from Australia, Costa Rica and Denmark
- We have a new look!
1). I've just arrived home from the 2015 International Society for Technology in Education Conference (ISTE) which took place this week in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and thought I'd take time to share resources with our community at large. Thanks to our co-hosts, VIF International Education, we convened global thought leaders for a brunch meeting to brainstorm and reflect upon the state of global education. And, a few hundred educators and organizations joined us on the afternoon of June 28th for Global Education Day, a meet up for those interested in globally connective opportunities for teachers and students.
An exciting time was had by all, and it was particularly wonderful to see so many GEC friends gather from around the globe. Thank you to all who were able to attend and we are particularly indebted to the many people who shared their expertise through ignite talks, roundtable discussions and cool tool sharing. For a full list of these participants and their contact information, please see our agenda for the day.
Here is a quick list of related resources that you may want to browse:
- Conference Agenda - includes notes in Google Docs from roundtable discussions
- Google Drive Folder - link to agenda and group notes from roundtables
- Attendee Introductions - find out about people's interests and follow them on Twitter
- #globaled15 social media posts on Tagboard
- Photos from Global Education Day
- Connecting to the World digital handout - steps to going global
Also, take a look at these excellent blog post reflections from Elizabeth Calhoon and Michelle Cordy. These recaps will give you an idea of what transpired on GED. Let us know if you write a reflection piece, too!
Again, thanks to all who participated in GED. We are particularly grateful to VIF and to ISTE!
2). Next announcement.... our Call for Proposals is open! You can now submit proposals for our free and virtual conference which will take place November 16-19. Acceptances will start August 1 and early responders will get the chance to book their sessions first so that they get choice presentation times. Make sure to read our mission before starting the process and join our presenter's group after you have submitted a proposal. We are also seeking advisory board members and non-profit partners.
If you are a for profit organization interested in connecting with our community, please email Steve Hargadon at steve@hargadon.com for details. Non-profits who believe in our work are also encouraged to support the community as well.
3) We have had a few graduate students ask to connect with educators in specific countries. Please respond to the original posters:
- Graduate Students - Read This!
- In Need of Danish Teachers
- Looking to Interview Someone on Education in Costa Rica
- Australian Teachers Needed for an Interview
- Cambodian Teachers Needed for an Interview
- Still Looking for One More Australian Teacher
We hope that these students share their work with us when it is completed. For more discussion forum posts, please visit this link.
4) We have a new look! Check out our bright and bold blue design. Thanks to Eugene Wang for his lovely work! We will post new conference badges shortly.
Stay tuned next month for our next community update!
Thanks,
Lucy Gray
