Global Learning, Service Learning

Service learning can take many forms.  In some cases, it is strictly tied to a classroom curriculum.  This works well with younger students.  In other situations, independent study can be arranged and course credits can be earned through independent, structured volunteer/service trips that contain a defined educational curriculum, leadership training and service.  These opportunities vary from school to school. It is essential to speak with your school's counselor and administrators early in the planning process to ensure credit for this type of service learning experience.  Portfolios, journals and lesson plans and bilingual reports are all ways this kind of service learning can be evaluated for credit.
