Your Name and Title: Gordon Shupe, Technology Director

School, Library, or Organization Name: Stone Middle School, Brevard County Schools

Country from Which You Will Present: United States

Language in Which You Will Present: English

Target Audience (such as primary school teachers, high school administrators, students, etc.): Secondary Schools

Short Session Description (one line): Use student photography to motivate students to look for relevant connections to curriculum goals and content in their world.

Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

Inspire observational, analytical skills with a mashup of curriculum goals, community connections, culture differences, vocabulary analysis, and social networking. Students enter a photo contest with their best capture illustrating a curriculum topic. Even the instructor learns as they see their student's world through the student's camera lens.

The premise for this activity is that students will think more deeply about curriculum topics if they are motivated to make a photograph that illustrates that topic.

This session will explore the pre-planning, setup, process and conclusion of running a global photo contest. Three aspects of technology literacy (tagging, commenting, rating) will be complimented by aesthetic considerations to deepen the concepts of curriculum.

Experience of four annual photo contests will be shared.

    Hey Gordon -

Can you add a tag or tags as mentioned in the call for proposals? That's how we aggregate the conference strands, so we really need you to pick at least one.
