Short Session Description (one line): Improving Mathematics through language focused instruction
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): We hear math is the universal language and some believe creating a mathematics classroom heavy on computation and "naked numbers" allows students with limited language proficiency to be successful. In this session, we will examine this myth and other traditional practices that are failing our students. Utilizing effective strategies, however, including cultural awareness and attention to language help create competent mathematicians.
