Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The GEC-NYC is a newly-formed working group of more than 30 global education organizations in the greater New York City area that have come together to collaborate on like-minded initiatives. With years of collective experience working with educators and students to inspire youth to become active global citizens, the Coalition is uniquely positioned to promote best practices and policy recommendations on global education. By working collaboratively, the Coalition seeks to establish a strong platform to increase global education and to build momentum for broader engagement with educators, students, administrators, policy makers, and other key stakeholders.
In this presentation, the objectives, goals and key activities of the GEC-NYC will be described. Additionally, some NYC teachers and students will share the need for creating global citizens even in a city as diverse as NYC. Moreover, the GEC-NYC hopes to create a ripple effect that will extend to other cities and towns who would like to develop similar projects, such as the DC Center on Global Education and Leadership.
