I'm looking to make global connections on Kidblog for my class:

http://kidblog.org/JIESGrade6/

Our current Unit of Inquiry is focused on 'personal histories', so we have been inquiring into building historical perspective by analyzing primary sources. Students will be researching to create a VoiceThread to tell the story of a family or community member over the next few weeks.

We're also reading and reflecting on Out of My Mind for the Global Read Aloud.

My students are very actively exploring and commenting on other student blogs, and I would like to find more international classes with whom to interact.

If you're interested, please leave a link to your class blog.

    • Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile! Thanks for the comments on our blog, I hope my students have been reciprocating!

  • Hello!

My class is in 5th grade, but most are 10 and 11 years old. We have been blogging on KidBlog and would LOVE to connect! We also will be beginning their Heritage Project very soon so this would be great motivation. Here is the link to our website and please direct message me for more information. Looking forward to connecting!

    • Thanks for responding! I'm just adding your class to our blogroll. We'll be sharing our VoiceThreads on our blog when they are finished this week.

Let me know if your students blog about their Heritage Project, we'd be happy to leave comments!

  • Bart,

I have a sixth-grade Language Arts class at St. Mark's Episcopal School in Houston, Texas.  I would be interested in exploring a connection in the spring, when we are ready to go global. So, though we are using Kidblog, we haven't gone public yet. I want the students to be comfortable with blogging first, but I also need to go slowly with the parents.

My students have written personal narratives in two veins, "My Life as a Reader" and "My Life as a Writer." The latter served as their first blog post.

My students are still learning the ins and outs of blogging this semester.  They have written two posts, two on topics I've assigned and one on a free topic.

We have read two books with historical backdrops, Number the Stars and An Elephant in the Garden.  We will just be beginning our discussion of "fact vs. fiction" today. Later this quarter, students will begin examining historical documents.

I will look into the Global Read Aloud as an optional text for my students in the spring. I am eager to be part of this program.

If you can think of a way we could collaborate that works for you, I am definitely interested.

    Best,

    Susan Davis

PS. I saw Lucy's tweet about your project, which brought me here. I have attended her Global Education Conference at ISTE for the past three years -- and it has always been a highlight for me.

    • Sounds great. We're finishing the Global Read Aloud now and it's been awesome to share posts and comments with other student bloggers.

Be sure to send the link to your class blog when you go public. I look forward to connecting!
