Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

Schoolwires® Greenleaf is a virtual international classroom exchange program with extensive curriculum that supports 21st century learning, leveraging students’ natural desire to engage and learn from their peers. In addition to a virtual learning platform, Greenleaf provides an international cultural exchange opportunity designed to promote digital and global citizenship.

As students and teachers from different countries collaborate on projects and learn together through safe social communication, they gain a deeper understanding of global issues and how to interact effectively with people from a different country and culture. The Greenleaf program develops diversity and cultural awareness, teaches global and digital citizenship, and provides language enrichment opportunities to improve communication skills in a multi-lingual setting. Using Schoolwires’ suite of instructional, community and social networking tools with an engaging curricula, student participants become international collaborators, researchers, and global citizens.

Greenleaf participating teachers and students are given access to online, supplemental curriculum and course content built around cultural exchange, learning objectives, and projects. The Greenleaf curriculum was designed by Schoolwires and validated by educators in China and the United States. Greenleaf curriculum aligns with core standards for 21st century learning in the following ways:

  • Equips students with the skills they need to succeed as global citizens
  • Engages students using 21st century learning tools and resources
  • Develops small group and personalized learning activities
  • Advocates and teaches safe and ethical social learning
  • Provides professional growth and leadership opportunities

Over the past several years, the Greenleaf program has been implemented successfully in multiple schools in U.S. and China. In this session, we will present an overview of the Greenleaf program and real experiences from participating students, teachers and schools.
