Help on a survey...

I've been asked to do a presentation for high school teachers and staff during their workshop week at the end of August. The principal has asked that I focus on what students are using and how teachers might bring that into their classroom. I thought it would be great to incorporate some actual data retrieved through a method that I hoped to share with them.

I have two goals:

(1) Obtain authentic data that is relevant and diverse, and

(2) Demonstrate the power of social networks and how they allow teachers to reach beyond the classroom walls.

So far, I have had 10 respondents to the survey. Two of those fall well outside the age range (13-18 years)...not that I don't appreciate their responses. I would love to see responses coming in from across the country, and very much so from across the globe. I know we have friends in Europe, Asia and Australia. My fear is that I'm going to go into my presentation and explain to them that while it is possible to use your "network" to gather large pools of data...it's definitely not easy. And, we ALL know that if something isn't "easy"...teachers tend to steer clear.

Could you please share a message out to your "networks", and ask them to share it as well? I don't expect that you have direct access to 13-18 year olds (unless you've started back to school already), but you may have direct access to parents of students in that age range. The survey is really short...might take them 5 minutes. There's nothing to win here, unfortunately.

"Please help Tj Fletcher with having your students or youth that are between 13-18 take this survey for some research he is doing. And, PLEASE pass this info on to your friends. http://bit.ly/oJiaeT. Thanks! Hurry!"

I know several of you have Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Can you hit as many of these as possible, or at least that you feel comfortable with posting? Also, if you have colleagues back in school, could you have them share this with their classes (again age range: 13-18 years).

I would appreciate any and all help in gathering a larger (more global) pool of responses.

T. J. Fletcher
