Short Session Description (one line):
How a change in the way we learn languages can radically improve our outcomes
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
The rates of language learning success are amazingly low when one considers that ALL of us learned our first language to the level of our peers. There are of course various reasons for that, one of the most significant being that we were taught languages in schools in ways that were never capable of helping most of us to success.
Instead these ways produced very poor outcomes for most people with the effect of prompting us to question our own abilities and eventually to arrive at the belief that we weren’t cut out for it!
The task that now faces most language learners after such experiences is to find ways that work to help them learn not only "the grammar and the vocabulary” but to engender confidence in their ability to learn the language AND to use the language in real life situations. Once that happens their beliefs will start turning around, one of the keys to success.
This presentation will look at just how we can turn language learning (and teaching) around so that success becomes an outcome, not just a goal.
