This introduction talk will give participants a better understanding of the JUMP Math principles and practices and an overview of how teachers, parents and school administrators can apply JUMP Math methods in their classrooms or homes.


Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Participants of this session will examine math teaching strategies that are empowering students by helping 1st-8th grade teachers continually assess, scaffold carefully and guide discovery in their students.  Through its classroom curriculum (which is being carefully rewritten to adhere to the common core standards), the non-profit organization, JUMP Math, has been closing the math achievement gap in classrooms across the US, Canada and beyond.

Learner outcomes:

1.  Learners will have practical strategies for teaching problem solving that they can apply in their classrooms or schools right away.

2.  Learners will understand the importance of fluency and conceptual understanding in problem solving.

3.  Learners will understand the JUMP Math principles and practices and know where to find more free materials.
