Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum): In 2004, the International Baccalaureate began exploring the potential of online learning as a channel of access to an IB education. Since 2008, students in IB World Schools have had the opportunity to take IB Diploma programme courses online. Global online cohorts foster new perspectives and enable students to experience international and intercultural classrooms in new ways. In September 2012, the IB launched the Open World Schools pilot-project and redefined access by creating a pathway to an IB education for students unable to attend an IB World School. This is a new paradigm for the IB and a further experience of the distinctive successes and challenges as a result of the global cohort experiences in rigorous 2-year online courses. This session will share our learning thus far of this unique model linking learners, schools, programmes, communities and organizations around the globe.
