Short Session Description (one line): A look into how ICTs can leverage education quality in the Americas

Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

Technologies are making its way into education providing new ways of learning and teaching, incorporating innovation into classrooms to generate a positive impact in education. New types of learning are aiming to combine the best of personalized education with the best of technology.

Latin America has made some important progress in its economy and in the education field in the past years, but is still facing some major challenges. There is an increasing demand for quality education in the region. The expanding middle class and increased purchasing power in countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Colombia, is generating a growing demand for more and better education. The region is increasingly competing with the rest of the world, and the next stages of development will demand more competitiveness, productivity and innovation.  Furthermore, the current offering seems to be ineffective at improving results. For instance, the governments, traditional suppliers of education, are falling behind according to OECD and other international rankings.

In this context, education technologies appear as an innovation still novel to the Latin American market, anchored in innovative and high quality solutions towards the future of education.  While its full impact is still being examined closely, it can make education less expensive and provide a higher and more standardized quality, as well as make it accessible to a great number of students thanks to online tools. Latin America has also got the possibility of learning from the experience of other countries that have been implementing online education, blended education and other formats of technology into schools for a longer time.
