Short Session Description (one line): Designing authentic, integrated assessment that invites students to work collaboratively, and to think creatively and globally.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Assessment has a profound influence on students’ confidence, levels of motivation and ability to identify and know how to improve their skills, knowledge and understanding. Researchers such as Dinham (2009), Hattie (2003) and Fullan (2006) assert that when students are actively engaged in their learning process through quality assessment for learning that provides on-going feedback about their achievement and progress, the classroom is transformed into an enriching and engaging environment and students’ learning outcomes will improve. Developing an “assessment for learning” culture is an imperative if our students are to become confident, competent and informed individuals.
This session will focus on how we have been instigating cross-curricular inquiry-based assessment tasks that are designed to encourage students to work collaboratively, unleash their creativity and think globally about world issues. We will discuss the tasks and share student work samples and student evaluations of the assessment tasks.
