Dear GEC Members,
Here is a brief history of the Global Education Conference Network for those new to our online community! This space was started in 2007 by Lucy Gray as a place where educators and organizations could connect around projects and initiatives fostering the development of global competence in students and teachers. In 2010, Steve Hargadon and Lucy collaborated on their first virtual global education conference. They proceeded to host several other virtual conferences and face-to-face events over the next ten years. These events were made possible by the thousands of keynote speakers, presenters, sponsors, and volunteers who devoted countless hours to our mission. We loved every minute of this journey and treasured the friendships that developed throughout our work. Collectively, we made an impact.
In 2020, due to a lack of funding, we intended to sunset the GEC. However, we kept the community open in hopes that our community could be revived. In the interim, activity has been minimal in the Global Education Conference Network. However, we are pleased to announce today that the GEC will continue, but with some significant improvements.
First, Steve will focus on his Learning Revolution work. Lucy will be bringing a new collaborator on board, Dr. William Rankin, who will help her build a vibrant professional learning community for educators worldwide. Additionally, the GEC will be rebranded as Actionable Innovations Global. Finally, our Ning platform will be upgraded for a new look, thanks to our friends at TakingITGlobal. This transition will take place over the next month or so. Please tuned for future announcements about our progress. In the meantime, you can help us by filling out this survey which will help us plan for the future. Your input is important.
If GEC members would like to follow Steve’s work, please reach out to him at steve@learningrevolution.com and join his Learning Revolution community to be kept updated about events and workshops. He will also be sending emails about how this community can get involved with his projects in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to continuing collaborations!
Lucy Gray
