Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
We will present knowledge gained from our recent French trip to Morocco. The trip to Morocco was planned around, and integrated into an advanced French elective on the Maghreb. We will explain the steps involved in preparing students in the classroom before embarking on the trip, and reflections on our planning and its execution. Communication in French and creating cross cultural exchanges around studied topics was integral in the planning of the trip. We will discuss bringing in outside voices to the classroom to begin cross cultural discussions, and to prepare students for experiencing a new and different culture. We will look at the content areas that best overlapped between the trip and the classroom curriculum including but not limited to : women in society, immigration, the influence of France, colonisation, the role of religion and tradition and modernity. In Morocco we worked with an organisation that helped facilitate the trip by making the necessary reservations and arrangements, and who provided us with a french speaking program leader. We will discuss the importance of a limiting travel time and having meaningful homestays in a fewer cities.
