Short Session Description (one line):

A lecture examining and evaluating how the welfare of international students is catered for at university

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Studying at university can be a challenging experience for many students, not only academically but socially and pastorally. Whilst these challenges are considerable for many domestic undergraduates they are magnified ten fold for those who arrive from foreign climes. The bureaucracy of many universities, not to mention the day to day trials of mobile phones, accommodation and finding your away round, can be utterly bewildering and exhausting for international newcomers. Whilst many muddle through and thrive academically there are an equal number who struggle to cope. Even students educated at school in that country can find the period of adjustment from a cosy boarding school to a large campus stressful. In my lecture I intend to reinforce the moral obligation we all have to look after these students, examine a number of approaches taken by universities to assist international students, put forward my own solutions too.

    Hi Edward -

Is Oakwood International a for profit company?

    Thanks,

    Lucy Gray

    • It is I'm afraid. If there's a problem with that, would it be possible just to represent myself and present?

We also have a strategic partnership with a German NFP called The Braun Foundation (http://www.braun-foundation.org) - perhaps I could present under their banner?

I'm not doing this as an infomercial - rest assured!

        Hi Edward-

Yes, as stated in the call for proposals, commercial groups are required to be sponsors in order to present. If you change your affiliation to a non-profit or individual status that would be fine, as long as you do not make references to your company. We also need to see more ties and language in your proposal to the mission of the conference: http://www.globaleducationconference.com/notes/The_GEC_Mission_Stat...

        Thanks,

        Lucy
