Target Audience: Those who design, facilitate, or participate in threaded discussions with global participants
One Line Description: Intersubjective Implications of Global Participants in Threaded Discussions
Full Description: Starting from a general perspective, this one-hour session will affirm the importance of threaded discussions in asynchronous, constructivist learning environments; offer evidence as to the current state of threaded discussions; and suggest a higher standard of quality than just interaction (ie., intersubjectivity). Intersubjectivity is the representation of knowledge construction achieved through the synergistic progression from individual contributions to sequences of interdependent contributions.
Once this common ground is established, the session will then move to an exploration of the additional challenges and opportunities for achieving intersubjectivity when the threaded discussions involve global participants. Emphasis will be placed on supporting cultural awareness and recognition of diversity – on a global scale – within the design and facilitation of threaded discussions.
