Global Citizen means, developing awareness about civic responsibilities and culture of oneself and/or others cultures, understanding the problems of environment through sharing knowledge, volunterism and philanthropy.
PBL is one of the tool which help educators/teachers around the world to prepare their students to accept challenges of the global world and become a global citizen. International schools and foreign culture is an uncommon experience for many families. Most of us won't have the opportunity to live abroad or spent their vacations abroad. Study abroad programmes and other activities are also out of reach for many families. Language spoken in foreign countries is also one of the hindrance to live and study abroad. Although there are so many organization which provide scholarship based studies but still there are so many students who do not get the chance to go and study abroad. Not only study but there are some students who do not know about their own country culture itself.So, what to do?
Introduce PBL in your teaching which facilitate students to learn the culture and lifestyle of foreign countries. Students also motivated to get the chance of learning the foreign languages and get knowledge of their study programmes as well. Students starts thinking about their career and future plan at the age of 15 or 16 and make up their mind for future study either going abroad after completion of 10 years of education or going to get higher education after the completion of 16 years of education.Study abroad is one of the option which students can easily approach through PBL as PBL provide opportunities to learn others education system as well.
PBL provides opportunity to students to find solutions of their as well as others problems. Get deeper knowledge of the subject they study. Students also learn new and good things of others culture and try to implement in their daily life.
Since 2011, As a science educator,I try to prepare my students for an increasingly globalized by connecting my classrooms through web technologies to facilitate student-led, collaborative global projects that humanize and personalize urgent global issues. In project-based learning, students were involved in individual and collaborative work to explore real-world problems and create presentations to share what they have learned. These projects enhance my students learning in a way that they become very good in communication, coordination and empathy skills as well as they got deeper understanding and knowledge of subject matter, increased self direction and motivation, improved problem solving and research based skills. They are now well aware about some new technologies also. (my students work i will show during my presentation)
