Introduction

I am a Lower School French teacher in Milwaukee, WI. My joy is watching elementary students fall in love with the wider world and become eager to make global connections. I believe that culture is the crux of World Language learning, especially for young students. My love for French began when my family of 7 moved to France when I was thirteen. My six months of 7th grade French was the only language experience we had to build on! Needless to say, my desire to learn the language was purposeful and relevant, as well as pressing! As I continued in my schooling back in the states, spending my summers in French-speaking Europe and Africa, I grew to love the variety that the francophone world presents. In the classroom, I seek for ways for my students to connect with students world-wide in meaningful ways, from e-mail/letter exchanges with classrooms in France to video skyping with students across the globe about cultural issues. I look forward to learning more about how to effectively use Web 2.0 in the elementary World Language classroom. Another area where I hope to grow is in creating more student-generated projects within my discipline, which can be tough because of the limited language abilities elementary students have. I am delighted to be a part of the GEC and look forward to learning from colleagues across the nation and globe. ~Alison Dupee
