While my university degrees were obtained from Universities in California and Oregon, I have lived and worked in Chile for over 25 years.  During that time, working with multinational organizations and as a volunteer for the American Embassy's Education Committee, this prompted additional upper division studies on global education which lead to a Master's Degree. The last five years in Chile were dedicated to developing an English Immersion school in the rural south of the country. This experience and writing for the United Nations Publications Office informed practical applications of these upper division studies which led to an innovative curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education for the immersion school. The proposed presentation for the upcoming 2014 Global Education Conference provides a synthesis of these studies entitled: Education for Transition Toward a Global Society: A K-8 Social Science Framework. It challenges current thinking about what is "developmentally appropriate" at the elementary levels and provides an alternative platform to organically develop global citizenry.
