Short Session Description:
Learning Digital Citizenship by Playing with Social Media @ schoooools, by Tecla Colorida
Full Session Description:
The rapid evolution and spread of digital technology collides with the reality of the classroom, creating an ever-larger technology gap with the outside world. The classroom is perhaps today one of the areas of human activity that has less changed over time. Paradoxically for educators, the most significant changes in education have come from many different origins, but not from the schools themselves.
In his talk, Ademar Aguiar will guide us along the path from his initial motivation to his vision on how to help schools on bridging the technological gap with a world full of digital media and devices. As many others, Ademar doesn’t see technology per se as the answer to all today’s issues posed by traditional educational models, but instead, he sees technology as an unavoidable and valuable tool to consider when redesigning classroom practices and learning strategies, from the simple flipping of (e)textbooks, to flipped classroom strategies, and open schools.
As a concrete result lead by this vision, Ademar will present schoooools, a very simple and intuitive social learning environment specifically designed to satisfy the growing needs for new ways of learning and to provide young learners crucial skills to become first-class digital citizens of the world. As an official digital school space, schoooools promotes better social interactivity, social learning, informal learning, and co-creation of new digital media, all provided as a single online platform, strongly anchored on the real social circles (classes, schools, families), and respecting their normal privacy rules.
